Why does Anne Hathaway care so much about being liked?

She’s just won Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for Les Miserables, topping off a hugely successful professional period which also saw her win rave reviews for her role of Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. Her peers have nothing but kind words for her. Her personal life is better than ever, having married Adam Shulman in September. Yet this isn’t enough for Anne.

Instead of just enjoying her previous Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA wins, she let criticism of her speeches from so called “Hathahaters” [seriously, who comes up with these names?] get to her so much that she worked on her Oscars acceptance repeatedly in a bid to be more likeable.

As if that wasn’t enough, Anne has now apologised for changing her Oscars dress at the last minute and choosing Prada over Valentino. She found out late on Saturday night that Amanda Seyfried was planning to wear a similar McQueen gown so opted for Prada instead but rather than owning her decision, Anne is so worried about offending anyone she has felt the need to explain.

Come on Anne, stop apologising, it’ll make the Hathahaters like you a lot more!
