Watching 22-year-old Jennifer Lawrence’s adorable reaction to getting hit on by Jack Nicholson, 75, after the Oscars just made everyone love her even more. The idea that this beautiful, successful young woman would even be interested in someone more than 50 years older than her just seemed laughable, movie legend status notwithstanding, and turned what could have been a creepy encounter into something cute and funny.
However, after seeing two new supposed romantic celebrity pairings today, Jennifer and Jack mightn’t be so farfetched after all.
First up is Marc Anthony and Topshop heiress Chloe Green. The random couple, who have a mere 23-year age-gap, enjoyed a day at Disneyland with his five year old twins Max and Emme (whose mother is Jennifer Lopez). They were openly affectionate with each other and from the pictures, Chloe seems comfortable with the kids, and vice versa, so she must have spent time with them before. Although Marc only split from model Shannon De Lima last month so who knows when they found the time!
The other strange pairing is Steven Tyler, 64, and Clint Eastwood’s 19-year-old daughter Francesca. The duo enjoyed dinner in Los Angeles with Jim Carrey and Russell Simmons recently. Which may not have been so weird, random celebrity friendships never cease to amaze or amuse me. But according to Laineygossip, Francesa, who last I heard was dating photographer Tyler Shields, got a friend to ask photographers to delete the pictures of her and Steven as she wanted to keep it a secret. Strange!!! I hope she is dating Steven, imagine him facing off with Clint, 82, when he arrived to pick her up for a date. They should feature that in her reality TV show. If a Clint/Steven stand-off doesn’t pull in the viewers, nothing will!
It wasn’t that long ago that most of us hadn’t even heard of the 21-year-old American born Irish actor but Hollywood is a fast paced place and now Jack is one of the most buzzed about young stars around. He’s winning acclaim for his work in Lenny Abrahamson’s What Richard Did, has landed the lead role in Transformers 4 and his name is being linked to a host of high profile movies.
One of Jack’s first major roles was in Kirsten Sheridan’s Dollhouse and her father Jim Sheridan is a huge fan of the actor. I spoke to Jim last week at the Oscar Wilde: Honouring The Irish In Film pre-Oscars event and while he was reluctant to compare Reynor to Farrell, he thinks Jack is comparable to another major movie star.
“Jack Reynor is good but I think he’s different to Colin. He’s the new George Clooney really. He’s different to Colin. Jack is a bit of a star though. I’m amazed by how many great young actors there are coming out of Ireland like Saoirse Ronan, Jack, Robbie Sheehan. It’s fantastic.”
High praise indeed from the man who directed Daniel Day Lewis to his first Oscar!
Reynor has also been linked to the role of Four/Tobias in the big screen version of Veronica Roth’s Divergent, which is set to become the next big teen franchise. [Think The Hunger Games rather than Twilight.] One of his competitors for the part is Alexander Ludwig, although the Canadian actor didn’t seem to think so when I spoke to him at the Montblanc and UNICEF Signature for Good 2013 charity brunch over the weekend.
“It’s a great role and I have read for it but I’m not sure what’s going to happen. I am really interested in the part but the movie may be too similar to the Hunger Games so we’ll see.”
Wise words or just a young actor covering himself in case he doesn’t get the part? Who knows, but either way it looks as if Reynor is unstoppable for now.

She’s just won Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for Les Miserables, topping off a hugely successful professional period which also saw her win rave reviews for her role of Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. Her peers have nothing but kind words for her. Her personal life is better than ever, having married Adam Shulman in September. Yet this isn’t enough for Anne.
Instead of just enjoying her previous Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA wins, she let criticism of her speeches from so called “Hathahaters” [seriously, who comes up with these names?] get to her so much that she worked on her Oscars acceptance repeatedly in a bid to be more likeable.
As if that wasn’t enough, Anne has now apologised for changing her Oscars dress at the last minute and choosing Prada over Valentino. She found out late on Saturday night that Amanda Seyfried was planning to wear a similar McQueen gown so opted for Prada instead but rather than owning her decision, Anne is so worried about offending anyone she has felt the need to explain.
Come on Anne, stop apologising, it’ll make the Hathahaters like you a lot more!
